The sonnet genre is often, although not always, about ideals or hypothetical situations. However, nothing will compare with the children that will result once the Fair Youth decides to “give away” himself.Ī sonnet is a poem which expresses a thought or idea and develops it, often cleverly and wittily. Sonnet 16, in the group of seventeen “procreation sonnets”, continues the argument that the beauty of the Fair Youth must be preserved through having children, although art, specifically Shakespeare’s own poems, is another means to achieve immortality. ![]()
